Driehaus Museum Campus - Nickerson House and John B. Murphy Memorial Auditorium Entrances
Located at 40 - 50 East Erie Street, Chicago, IL, the Driehaus Museum is an exquisite example of the lavish residence of the Chicago elite during the Gilded Age from the 1870s to the 1890s. The museum is in two parts. One part of the museum is housed within the historic Samuel M. Nickerson House, on the left, the 1883 residence of a wealthy Chicago banker. The mansion has been restored to the design, architecture, and decorating tastes of Gilded Age America and the Art Nouveau era in their permanent and special exhibitions.
The second part of the museum, on the right, is the adjacent John B. Murphy Memorial Auditorium. It was designed by the architectural firm Marshall & Fox and originally served as a space for ACS meetings, surgical research, and education.
The entrance to the Dreihaus Museum is up the staircase through the main entrance to the John B. Murphy Memorial Auditorium. There is an elevator on the ground floor to the left of the staircase. The Museum has manually-operated wheelchairs available, free of charge.
Getting to the Dreihaus Museum by car can be confusing due to the one way streets every other block in the crowded Near North Side neighborhood. Street parking is difficult to find. Parking facilities are within blocks of the museum. Expect to pay about $30.00 for parking.
