ADA Accessibility to Botanical Sites
Often botanical site like botanical garden, zoos, and museums have made an exceptional effort to accommodate persons with disabilities. Other botanical sites, especially larger areas like forest preserves, dunes, and prairies, are making an effort but have limited access and few accommodations. There are still many botanical sites that have no access or no accommodations for persons with disabilities.
Access and accommodations are necessary when a person is in a wheel chair, needs an on-site wheel chair or ECV (Electronic Convenience Vehicle), uses a walking aid, needs benches to take periodic breaks, or needs water or a restroom. Having knowledge before going into a building or nature area is crucial for enjoyment and use of a botanical site.
The intention is to show the accessibility of botanical art locations for the midwest area. It is in not all inclusive. If you would like research done for a botanical site or have researched a botanical site to include please contact us below.
