The Board of Directors will meet with committee chairs to review current business and upcoming projects. Following the meeting, we will hold our Show and Tell, where members are invited to share their recent botanical artwork. Refreshments will be served.

Studio Secrets: Members will be discussing and sharing their favorite substrata — whether it be traditional hot press paper, museum board, vellum, or film.

All members are invited to discuss their current favorite substrates. Feel free to bring in a sample and share the reasons that this particular drawing or painting surface is appealing for colored pencil or watercolor.

100% cotton and archival are at the top of the list for a substrates that will perform for botanical artists. Other essential qualities botanical artists look for include the ability to:

• Create smooth watercolor washes

• Blend or burnish colored pencils

• Layer colors effectively

• Emboss and lift pigment

• Create crisp, clean edges

• Erase easily for changes or mistakes

The substrata that performs well may not be paper at all but film or vellum.
